More than cinema

More than just films, the Madeira Film Festival’s 6th edition includes a fashion parade, a concert and a programme with resident artists.

Coinciding with the coming of April is the arrival of yet another edition of the Madeira Film Festival. Set to take place between the 17th and the 23rd, it will feature dozens of films dedicated to nature to be viewed at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre.

One of the novelties to be introduced in the 6th edition is the programme of resident artists, to be supervised by director Pedro Sena Nunes. It will allow young directors to produce film contents related to the 600 years of the discovery of Madeira; a project which should last well into 2019.

As per usual, the opening ceremony will happen with a cocktail at the Belmond Reid’s Palace. This will be followed by the festival’s opening viewing which, unlike with previous editions, will be in Portuguese.

The festival will also have an international fashion parade, to be held on April 21st. On the same day, Czech soprano Zdislava Bocková will sing in a concert. The price is 20 euros. The title of Ambassadors of the Laurel Forest, an award offered to all the participants of the festival, is to be given out throughout the event.

Created in 2012, the Madeira Film Festival aims to promote and pay tribute to the Laurel forest which, since 1999, bears the title of UNESCO Site of Natural World Heritage.
