The Atlantic Festival

Tourist event opened the summer season in Madeira.

The Atlantic Festival took off last Saturday, June 3rd, opening the summer season in Madeira despite being one of the island’s most recent tourist events.

The event consists of a range of cultural activities distributed throughout June and with a major focus on the fireworks shows that take place on Saturdays s well as on the Atlantic Roots Festival, to happen in Quinta Magnólia between June 15th and 17th, and the Regional Week of the Arts, set for the week between the 7th and 18th of June, in several spots of the city.

On all the four Saturdays of the month, fireworks start at 10: 30 p.m. in the bay of Funchal. The show lasts for about 20 minutes and visitors and residents alike are treated to a marvellous display of coloured lights coupled with music. This year, the first fireworks show represented Canada.

Each show is organised by a different firm and at the end of the Festival a winner is elected by the audience and granted an award.
