Body, Mind and Soul

Maló is focused on well and wellness tourism with a clinic and a Spa in Funchal.

At times it can be hard taking care of ourselves as we deserve. Between running around, the pressure levels at work, household chores and living in general, we eventually let ourselves go: Our well-being and appearance become the last items on our list when we focus our attention on our duties and problems.

Thinking about those who run marathons in their own space every day, Maló Clinic has created a Spa as part of Meliá Madeira Hotel designed to take care of your body, mind and soul. The space has recently celebrated its 6th birthday and is a privileged location for those who intend to relax and pamper themselves.

The nine relaxation rooms that compose this part of the Clinic have been decorated and inspired in two different environments: you’ll find yourself either by the beach or in the forest, surrounded by the landscape and sounds. You have several treatments to choose from with options ranging from conventional procedures to the most technologically advanced body and face treatments. Massages are also available.

The SPA also has a designated “Aqua Sensations” area. Here is where all water based treatments are done, ranging from Turkish Baths, Sauna, Whirlpool Bath, Hot and Cold Tubs and showers. These are accessible before or after relaxation treatments.

There is a gym within the SPA area, free for hotel customers. Those who are interested can also enjoy this space via a monthly payment. Maló Clinic has been trying to reach out to the regional market with an array of events such as open-days in which you can try dancing lessons and massages as well as the gymnasium. In average, two to three hundred people sign up for these events, claims Cristiana Machado, head of the SPA.

There is also a beauty area available with manicure, makeup and hairdresser services. Here you can cut, straighten or dye your hair. Designated professionals from other clinics, such as the one in Lisbon (the world’s biggest clinic) come to assist in these type of services.

Under the Health tourism concept and to reinforce idea of world leadership in implantology and dental aesthetics, an investment was made to create the Maló Clinic Dental Care two years ago, thus reinforcing the group’s ideals when it comes to health and well-being.

Having 35 rooms, the space also has a laboratory specialized in fixed prosthetics. Nowadays, the All-on-4 technique is available, making it possible to place a fixed dentition without the need to a bone transplant, in just one appointment.

Thinking about the customers’ quality of life, Maló Clinic Medical Care was created to complement the dental clinic’s offer. The space offers makes an entire set of additional medical specialities available. Miguel Freitas, one of the managers, explains that “in some cases, after a surgery, an adaptation to the newly acquired physiognomy has to be made” using speech therapy, for example. The also clinic runs Nutrition, Obstetrics, Otolaryngology, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Psychology, Rheumatology and Speech Therapy appointments.

At this point in time there are 72 Maló Clinics, spread across 25 countries, covering all five continents. In 2014 the TaivexMalo SPA (currently the world’s biggest SPA) has received the Best Luxury Medical SPA distinction, awarded by the World Luxury Hotel Awards.
