The Madeiran restaurant was classified as the second best Portuguese restaurant.
The Il Gallo d'Oro restaurant at the 5 star Hotel The Cliff Bay in Funchal is part of La Liste’s Top 200. La Liste is an initiative of France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs that elects the thousand best restaurants in the world. It obtained a score of 95% placing it in the 174th position, in a list where there are eight Portuguese restaurants.
The ranking is based on gastronomic blogs, guides, evaluation websites and various publications from various countries. In this edition, referring to 2018, more than 500 guides were analysed in 165 countries.
Already back in November, Il Gallo d'Oro, led by chef Benoît Sinthon, saw its presence in the Michelin Guide be renewed with an award of 2 stars. This restaurant has been featured on this prestigious guide for ten years in a row.
The experience of high gastronomy is mirrored by the wine list. With around 300 references, it has also been acknowledged with several awards, among them the "Award of Excellence" (2001, 2012, 2013 and 2015) and the "Best of Award of Excellence" in 2016 and 2017, by the renowned American magazine Wine Spectator.
