Rum Festival

The first ever Rum festival in Madeira is set to take place between the 18th and 21st of May.

The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Fishing is holding the 1st edition of the Rum Festival. Held through IVBAM, the Institute for Wine, Embroidery and Crafts in Madeira, it is set to take place at Largo da Restauração.

In attendance will be several of the people who produce Madeira Rum and other sugarcane-related products making this a real opportunity for Madeirans and tourists alike to learn more about a product which has come to be produced in larger quantities and higher quality over the last few years.

Blending pleasure with knowledge, the event will offer both a Madeira Rum tasting session as well as Madeira Rum Masterclasses supervised by sommelier Américo Pereira, who runs the Madeira Barmen Association.

On May 20th, there will be a ‘Rum Talk’, with internationally acclaimed speakers invited by IVBAM such as Peter Holland, Thanos Prunarus, Nélson Bernardes and Thierry Heins.

The festival is set to take place between the 18th and 21st of May, starting at 11 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m., with the exception of May 19th and 20th, when closing time will be midnight.
