‘Romeo and Juliet’

Shakespeare’s classic on stage at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre.

On May 18th and 19th at 9 p.m., Companhia Vareira presents their recent project staging ‘Romeo and Juliet’ as a dance show at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre.

The goal is to use dance to tell Shakespeare’s classic love story of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ which he wrote between 1591 and 1595. The theatre company also seeks to portray the changes which have ensued since the 16th century until the present.

Companhia Vareia is a theatre group that came out of Fundação do Carnaval de Ovar after many a rehearsal. Having successfully staged their first show, the group is truly a heterogeneous one in which people play with each other’s differences to their collective advantage.

Since their inception, Companhia Vareia have come to continuously evolve and offer better and better performances with shows such as ‘3’, ‘Força’ and recently ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
