Absolute debut

Anne Victorino d’Almeida’s Concert for high Sax and Orchestra at the Municipal Theatre.


On May 20th, at 6 p.m., the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre is host to German maestro Ernest Schelle who will be directing a concert with the Madeira Classical Orchestra together with young sax player Elvis Sousa.

A ‘musician of striking musical personality and exuberant technique’, Elvis Sousa started his path in the Conservatorium of Madeira under Duarte Basílio and he has gone on to win his share of awards.

This will be maestro Ernest Schelle’s first time rising to the stage with the Madeira Classical Orchestra. His career started back in 1981, in the Swiss Orchestras, and since then he has had his work in the area of Orchestral Art internationally recognized.

Part of the programme is the absolute debut of Portuguese composer Anne Victorino d’Almeida’s Concert for High Sax and Orchestra.

With its Young Musicians Cycle, the Madeira Classical Orchestra intends to illustrate the teaching of the arts in Madeira by showcasing the talent of younger generations and new pieces gifting the audience with music by the major composers of our time.

Tickets can be bought at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre for prices ranging between 5 and 20 euros.
