Bridal cake

Exhibition devoted to the traditional delicacy.

Pastries have long been associated with weddings and related celebrations around the world. This association can be found in the reign of Elizabeth the 1st as well as in Roman nuptial customs. Madeiran ‘Bridal cake’, also known in some parts of the island as ‘mountain cake’ or ‘sweet cake’ is an easy to bake delicacy sporting a long longevity, usually found in weddings and other celebrations.

Until June 17th, the Madeira Ethnographic Museum is host to the ‘Traditional Gastronomy: Bridal Cake’ exhibition. The goal is to value and divulge this delicacy of mysterious and ancient origins. Entrance is free of charge.
