Contemporary Art at the Arts Centre

A set of works by renowned Portuguese artists will be on display until January.

A set of 64 works from the Contemporary Art collection of Portugal Telecom is on display at the Casa das Mudas Arts Centre until January 2015. It is the largest display from this collection which brings together a total of 40 Portuguese artists who showcase, according to a press release from the organization, “art as a top quality cultural provision as well as a pedagogic opportunity in history of art and contemporary artistic creation in Portugal, in the last half of the century.”

The collection represents the several artistic movements, schools and poetics. As well as covering work by renowned authors linked to the artistic movements of the 60’s and 70’s, whose work in some cases crossed with the dominant aesthetics on the international artistic scene, the exhibition will also include more recent artistic creations.

The core of works is the result of a selection by José Manuel de Sainz-Trueva, commissioner of the exhibition and Director of the Contemporary Art Museum in Madeira, which reveal the extent of artistic options and the numerous artistic fields.

Comprising authors born between 1921 and 1978, the exhibition route did not intend to showcase the selection of works by generations or historical sequence. The display features works by authors such as Lourdes Castro, Vítor Pomar, Álvaro Lapa, Michael Biberstein, Ana Hatherly and many more.

This exhibition can be visited from Tuesdays to Sundays, until January 11th 2015.
