Go for a dive

It goes by the name of Scuba Diving and draws together the many diving centres of different hotels in Madeira and Porto Santo.

Many hotels wish to promote Madeira and Porto Santo as a diving paradise. This is the idea underlying the Scuba Diving project, developed by the Madeira Promotion Bureau and the hotels that have diving centres in both islands.

The project is brought to life via a website that highlights the features of the archipelago’s waters: an average seawater temperature of 22 ºC, clear water along 400 km worth of coastline and over 30 diving spots.

The Scuba Diving Madeira project prepares its divers by giving them courses of any level, diving baptisms, identifying different spots and supplying all the necessary equipment.

The project’s strength lies in its use of digital media as it is covered both nationally and internationally. The creation of www.scubadivingmadeira.com, a constant presence in the social media and advertising in national and international magazines are among the tools to be used.

The defining trait of diving in Madeira is that, in most of the spots, it is done from the coast. The lack of a continental platform allows for greater accessibility and takes divers through great slopes, walls and caves.

On average, the depths of Porto Santo are lower and some spots have unique features, such as the ‘Madeiran’ ship, intentionally sunk so that it could become an artificial reef for the sake of diving.
