Two paragliding acrobats chose Madeira as the ideal spot to practice for the up and coming European season of Acrobatic Paragliding, incorporated in the Fly The Earth project, which seeks to promote this sport around the world through the experience of professional pilots who take to the skies of some of the most exotic places on earth.

These events are promoted on several platforms such as social networks and the internet with a view of promoting different locations. The Veso champions, professional name of the Bulgarian Veselin Ovcharov and Serbian Petrar Loncar, flew the skies of Madeira for a week-long practice.

Interviewed straight after a vertiginous descent on Paúl do Mar, the pilots were quick to agree that Madeira is a «magical place» offering «tasty yet inexpensive food, beautiful natural surroundings and ideal places to fly».

«Some days we woke up at 10a.m for a morning flight on the southwest coast, followed by another one on the north coast as well as a sunset flight again on the south coast». This incredible ease of flying from several different parts of the island in one day was the ideal opportunity for Vevo and Petar to identify 12 paragliding sites and several altitudes, some at 1.000metres above sea level. The pilots regard Madeira as the «European Hawaii».

Both of the acrobats were accompanied by Hartmut Peters, an experienced pilot based in Madeira and a true connoisseur of the local weather conditions and flight locations.
Peters explained to Essential that «the local sport and economy have only something to gain» from this visit «as pilots from all over the world are starting to show an interest» which could attract more pilots to the island. Madeira could possibly even come to be part of the official Acrobatic Paragliding Championship calendar.
