Making sense(s) out of Photos

André Ferraz’s first solo exhibition is an experience for the senses.

Madeiran photographer André Ferraz has his first solo work ‘Opium’ in display at the Museu Casa da Luz. It is scheduled to open on December 6th at 6 p.m. and will remain in display until January 5th 2017.

This is young artist born in Funchal in 1994 has been interested in the art of photography since very early into his life. With the essence of a woman as his inspiration, the photographer opens up a world of experiences where the five senses can be observed through the feminine figure.

‘Extracted from the poppy, opium is a strikingly interesting substance, since it has multiple properties; From euphoria to the ability to relieve Human Beings’ suffering. Such is the equation of the senses which has intoxicated my work, determination, individuality and sensuality, the obscure and the mysterious are recurring motifs in my pieces’ explains André Ferraz.

Currently a student, André Ferraz is readying the public display of his sincere tribute to all the women in his life, including his grandmother whose perfume – Opium – inspired the title of the exhibition.

Entrance is free Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
