MED Restaurant

Every week, MED restaurant hosts a special meat-loving themed night with its own dedicated menu.

The Mediterranean diet is considered Intangible Cultural Heritage, a distinction that comes not only from this diet’s variety and richness, but also from the fact that it unites several peoples, as it is right in the centre of the Occidental Culture with its Greek, Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese influences. In all honesty, the Mediterranean diet is influenced a little by all the countries that are part of the Mediterranean basin.

For that reason, the first word that comes to mind when describing MED’s restaurant menu, is Diversity. This is valid for both its influences and the ingredients used, from the wine to the olive oil, the cheeses and the salads. MED soaks all these inspirations and gives them its own twist, beautifully complemented with its soft-coloured and dimmed-light cosy environment. It is part of the Vila Porto Mare, a Porto Bay Group resort in Funchal.

Its menu is a journey through the Mediterranean, with familiar flavours and aromas. However, there is one night weekly, dedicated to meat. It is the Meat Lovers night and it presents several dishes in a specially created menu for the event, including some of the gastronomic history’s classic meat dishes. The possibilities are endless: a juicy Fillet Mignon carved at your table, a Chateaubriand, an Entrecote, a Rump steak, a T-Bone, Chops, the Brazilian Picanha or even the typical Espetada.

The meat is 100% from Madeira Island and the service follows a true flavoursome ritual where all sorts of sauces can be found: green pepper and cognac, béarnaise, mushroom sauce, Dijon mustard, horseradish or garlic mayo to name a few. Roasted potatoes and vegetables accompany the meat, as well as a salad that can also be ordered as a starter.

The food is beautifully combined with a wine selection that changes throughout the year, always aiming to balance the flavours and turn your dinner into a harmonizing experience
