Karyna Gomes will be one of this edition’s fourteen premieres.
The stage has been the same ever since eight years ago: atop an eighty meters high garden over the centre of Ponta do Sol. The event already has a tradition to it as well as a faithful audience. It’s the L Concerts, taking place between the 27th of June and the 26th of September at Estalagem da Ponta do Sol.
Taking previous years as an example, the organization of the event decided once again to have the search for new trends and absolute debuts in a musical prejudice-free environment as their core concept. Fourteen different proposals are involved with concerts being taken to stage on Wednesdays, Fridays or Saturdays.
The official opening of this edition will count with North American Weyes Blood’s presence, considered by the international press to be one of the hip voices in experimental folk right now.
During July there will be four performances. On the 10th of July, Karyna Gomes will arrive directly from Guiné-Bissau to Ponta do Sol. Brazilian Bárbara Eugénia will be peforming on the 17th of July. The alien PZ will be presenting his most recent work “Mensagens da Nave-Mãe” on the22nd of July with rhythms that cross hip-hop, pop and electronic. Closing July will be the the THEEsatisfaction duo from the United States.
In August the inn will host another five concerts. Leo Cavalcanti on the 5th, Bianca Casady & The C.I.A. on the 12th, Nuno & The End on the 15th, Júlio Resende on the 19th and You Can’t Win Charlie Brown, a Lisbon-born group born in 2009, on the 26th.
Madeiran Rui Camacho’s Vértice will be performing on the 2nd of September taking 15 original songs inspired in 15 poems by 15 Madeiran poets to stage. On the 12th of September it will be New Yorker Johanna Glazza’s turn and on the 19th Pedro Coquenão will bring Batida with a mixture of electronic and some elements from the golden age of Angolan music.
This year’s edition will close with Portuguese quartet Paus on the 26th of September. The group has already participated in several festivals throughout Europe, the US and Mexico as well as some of the most reputed national stages such as Optimus Alives, Paredes de Coura and Super Bock Super Rock.
Contact between the artists and their audience will be privileged by the minimalist surroundings, the broader scenery being topped off with the view.
The purpose is that of creating synergy between singer and spectator while focusing on music.
As with previous editions: to try and maintain the intimacy of the concerts, those who are interested must send their name to the guest list. This year’s minimum consumption will be six euros.
