There is always room for more culture

Celebrating its 25th birthday, the Students’ Union of the University of Madeira offers an evening of culture at the former Jesuits’ College of Funchal.

An evening guided tour of one of the island’s most emblematic buildings, the former Jesuits’ College of Funchal. This is but one of the activities the Students’ Union of the University of Madeira (AAUMa) suggests for the 27th of February.

This is the first event held under the banner Cultured Evenings, its purpose, allowing participants a chance to partake in cultural activities in many different historic sites on the island and representative of the Region’s culture. The tour is set to start at 9 p.m.

Before that, another project: Madeiran Heritage – Sharing our legacy, is to be presented to the public. The underlying principle is that of combining AAUMa’s different realizations of its cultural and touristic offer, namely, the tours of the City Hall of Funchal, the History Tellers project (in which groups of visitors are guided by a young university student through the streets of Funchal) and the tours of the old Jesuits’ College of Funchal, nowadays the administration office of the University of Madeira (UMa).

Supporting this project is a group of students, former students, lecturers of UMa and volunteers gathered by The European Voluntary Service, as well as other cultural and public institutions of Madeira and many travel agencies.

At 10 p.m., it’s time to hear some fado music. Fatum, AAUMa’s very own fado music group will treat its visitors to another concert.

It will be a very emotive and symbolic evening seeing as to how AAUMa celebrates its 25th birthday this year. For this very reason, the event will be broadcasted live by RTP-M (local channel) through AAUMa’s own shows, Pátio dos Estudantes.
