In addition to being a resort, Saccharum offers a Premium Experience service option, full of advantages and details
A cloth bag welcomes you! It's marked Saccharum and contains gifts: sun cream, water, hats, fruit, and a copy of Essential Madeira Islands. This is how Savoy Premium Experience customers are greeted. In addition, on the table of the suite, there are cheeses, jams, and more fruit, which will change daily during the stay.
The Premium Experience is a distinctive offer. It is available in any of the resort's accommodation units but is included by default in the premium ocean rooms, ocean suites, design suites, superior suites and pool suites.
One of them, the superior pool suite, has a swimming pool on the balcony, which allows you to bathe in privacy and away from the rest of the world. The pool suites, like the other superior suites, have two rooms with enormous comfort and generous balconies or gardens overlooking the ocean.
The swimming pool is a plus point in the service, which is made up of a series of details. It starts with a differentiated check-in and a guided tour of the areas reserved for Premium Experience clients and ends with a welcome drink in The Club, a space that ends up being central to the experience.
The Saccharum Resort by Savoy Signature is a five-star resort built on the site of an old Madeira rum production mill. Some of the equipment can still be seen inside the building, which is an elegant concrete structure that was born in the valley and conquered space by excavating the hillside and thus hiding the volume.
Saccharum is, incidentally, the Latin name for the genus of plants to which sugar canes belong, in an invocation of the hotel's theme, which gives its name to various spaces. The Engenho, Alambique and Trapiche restaurants, and the Rhum and Garapa bars.
The Premium Experience includes covered parking, access to an exclusive solarium area with a Jacuzzi, with refreshing drinks at certain times, Balinese beds, especially at the Calhau Beach Club, by the sea, selected drinks in the room minibar, Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates and Aqua Aerobics classes, unlimited access to the squash court and even ironing, with one piece per day. In addition, clients can use a meeting room free of charge for one hour, with capacity for 6 people.
But there's more, starting with The Club, one of the epicentres of the experience. It's the place reserved for breakfast. The service is à la carte. As well as eggs, there's toast, gluten-free bread, soya milk and yoghurt, cheeses and charcuterie and various healthy options such as oats, granola, açai or fruit. The Club is open all day and serves a selection of drinks, included in the service, and snacks in the evening.
Premium customers can take advantage of all the hotel's other services, such as the kids' club, the swimming pools (including the infinity pool on the rooftop), the solariums and the hotel beach.
The wet area of the spa is also open to these clients, who can take advantage of the hydromassage pool, Turkish bath, sauna, jacuzzi, Chroma therapy and relaxation area. It's an award-winning spa that conveys an atmosphere of harmony and comfort.
Saccharum has everything you'd expect from a resort, with a few more details, such as a piano that echoes in the Rhum bar in the afternoons. There are activities and spaces where you can be in absolute tranquillity. Then there's the location, by the sea and in Calheta, which can be the base for exploring the beauties of the west coast of the island of Madeira, a kind of Madeiran Riviera.
Saccharum's identity has been cemented over the years. And you can see it in the details and the friendliness with which the service is provided. Most of the staff come from that part of the island and this brings a genuine character to the way guests are received.
The hotel has four restaurants, all of which are accessible to outside guests. The main one is called Engenho, where breakfast is served, full of options, including gluten-free and lactose-free. But it also serves a daily themed buffet dinner.
Alambique is the signature restaurant, where Madeiran food is reinterpreted in a menu with a local flavour. The restaurant has à la carte options and a 7-course tasting menu.
Another restaurant is Trapiche, overlooking the rooftop pool, with a lunch and dinner menu. It's Mediterranean, ideal for al fresco dining.
By the sea there is also the Calhau Beach Club, which supports the beach and serves meals, but above all drinks, to the sound of a DJ on weekend evenings.
In the evenings, it's all about the Fly Lounge Bar, Saccharum's main drinks service. Here a young and dynamic team serves all kinds of drinks with an emphasis on cocktails. There are some signature cocktails, including a new version of the traditional Madeira poncha, which even includes egg white in the ingredients. A veritable world to be discovered!
