The Reis Magos Beach

On the coast of Caniço there is a small stronghold, a beach that attracts bathers all year round

Currently home to around 25,000 residents, the parish of Caniço is one of the largest in Madeira and one that, in recent decades, has won over the hearts of not only Madeirans but also many foreigners, who have found their refuge here, as well as being one of the island's main tourist centres.

For a local, walking through Caniço de Baixo, for example, is almost like being on holiday. The amount of tourists, especially Germans, you come across makes you doubt your location. This part of the island is almost like a microcosm.

But if the beautiful landscapes, good access, and services are points in this parish's favour, the truth is that one of Caniço's reference points is the Reis Magos beach, known for its translucent and seductive waters that invite you to take an invigorating dip.

When you arrive at this seaside resort, the colours of the scenery are immediately obvious to the naked eye. It's enchanting to be able to see the blue of the Atlantic Ocean, which willingly embraces the grey, sometimes light, and sometimes dark, of the pebbles, the brown of the rocks and the vibrant green of nature.

In addition to this idyllic landscape and the special surroundings of this beach, with a pleasant promenade that emanates peace and tranquillity, with surrounding hotels that stand out for their refinement, there are a number of features in this area that are well worth a visit.

Firstly, sports enthusiasts will find this a privileged place to run, walk or simply take advantage of the outdoor activity equipment available for those who want to burn off some extra calories.

However, for those who come to this seaside resort purely for the pleasure of sunbathing, they can choose to stretch out on the pebbles, typical of the region, or in the concrete sunbathing area.

To enter the sea, the more adventurous can do so directly through the pebble stone area while those who don't feel as comfortable have the choice of going down the stairs designed for this purpose.

In short, there are myriad reasons to go to the Reis Magos beach. For foodies, there's a restaurant for snacks and a bar where you can cool off on the terrace, especially on the hottest days, all in a space that stands out for its excellence, as it boasts the Blue Flag, and safety, with lifeguards.

Another advantage is the car parking facilities, the toilets, which are adapted for people with disabilities, and a first aid post.

Shall we go for a swim?
