Madeiran sparkling wine makes gold

The Terras do Avô Madeiran sparkling wine was awarded the gold medal at the Brut Experience 2018 competition, held in Lisbon last June.

The award was given to a wine in the Super Reserve category produced in 2014. It was made mostly from the verdelho (89 per cent) and sercial (11 per cent) grape varieties. A total 1,200 bottles were produced and sold at around 35 euros.

The wine is a concoction of Duarte Caldeira’s family-run Seixal Wines business and is the first ever Madeiran sparkling wine, produced through resource to the so-called champagne method.

The Terras do Avô brand also produces red wine and white wine, including reserve wines.
