Charming hotel featured in 'Traveler's Choice 2018', distinction awarded by visitors.
Quinta Jardins do Lago stands out as the 22 nd best hotel in the World in the list of 'Traveler's Choice 2018', based on the choices of visitors to the TripAdvisor trip site. The hotel holds the 1 st position of the national ranking, in the same category. Other awards achieved on this platform were the 1st place in Service and Hotel of Excellence and the 2 nd Best Hotel for Luxury and Romance.
The Quinta Jardins do Lago is a hotel integrated into a former Madeiran quinta, an estate dominated by a manor house and lush gardens. It sits atop a hill in the natural amphitheater that is Funchal and was the place of residence of William Carr Beresford, British colonel that commanded a British contingent that occupied Madeira at the beginning of the Napoleonic Wars. Later promoted to general, Beresford commanded the Portuguese army in the liberation war of the Iberian Peninsula from French rule, in the beginning of 19 th century. Some pieces of furniture that belonged to the officer are still there.
The 'Traveler's Choice 2018', also highlights other hotels in Madeira. The Quinta da Casa Branca, of the same group occupies the 5 th position of the list of best of Portugal, 6 th position on Romance and 11 th in Service and 12 th in Luxury. The Albergaria Dias Hotel stands as the 6 th best in the country and is positioned in the categories of Quality / Price and Service in 2 nd and 19 th places, respectively. The Cliff Bay Hotel is also on the nation’s best list, in 10 th place and brings home 3 more prizes: Luxury (4 th ), Romance (5 th ) and Service (12 th ). Even better in Portugal, we have Quinta do Furão, in Santana, in 20 th place. The Belmond Reid's Palace is 22 nd best, ranking 9 th in Romance and 16 th in Luxury. The last Madeiran hotel to be referred to as the best in the country was the Eden Mar, sitting at number 24.
Apart from the category of the main hotels in Portugal, the Albatroz Beach & Yacht Club in Santa Cruz, in 7th place as Best Small Hotel, 14th in Luxury and 17th in Service. The Aqua Natura Madeira Hotel in Porto Moniz also figures in the list Best Small Hotel category in 17 th place. Still in the category of Romance there is the Porto Santa Maria Hotel, in 16 th position.
Lastly, in the category of Best Economic Hotels in Portugal, the Residencial Pina, Solar da Bica (São Vicente) and Residencial Parque occupy the 2 nd , 11 th and 20 th positions, respectively.
