“Arts in” is a concept that merges business with art and culture, aiming to promote the city’s best features.
There’s a new project created in Madeira that aims to reach the four corners of the globe. Arts In is an abbreviation for Arts Investments and a brand developed to promote whatever city it’s being used in: to unveil the city’s secrets, its talents and all the magic corners that one might miss at first sight.
Arts In assumes itself as a cultural movement that combines art and lifestyle. It proposes the promotion of a few key concepts such as “tourism, art and entrepreneurship”.
The new company works on 5 different areas, divided by the following categories: Arts In Hotel, Arts In Hostels, Arts In Apartments, Arts In Business Center and Arts In Lounges. Some of these areas’ projects are fully operational, some are still being worked on and developed.
The group’s first step was the renewal and enlargement of the old Quinta do Conde de Carvalhal.
Arts In Hotel Conde Carvalhal is set on the idea that hotels are “no longer just sleeping rooms” and therefore, it wishes to provide its customers a vast array of experiences in fields such as wellbeing, health, gastronomy, art and music, all this while treasuring a close contact with the destination’s local culture.
The project, that intended to integrate the original buildings into a distinct and contemporary style, has been carried out by the well known Paulo David, international award winner architect. The hotel was thus turned into a living gallery where the works exposed can be bought by the visitors. The old Casinha dos Prazeres has also been renewed and is now home to a little market where the guests can buy food and beverages for their meals, always with the emphasis on typical Madeira products.
But the art connection is not confined to the hotel’s walls only: the property also encloses Teresa Gonçalves Lobo’s workshop, Madeiran artist and responsible for the property’s curatorship. Teresa revealed her ambitions to Essential: to include as much local population in the project as possible, since one of the project’s premises is that “everything that’s done in Madeira needs to be, primarily, done for the people who live here”. Guests and tourists’ appreciation is always welcome though: “even if it’s inside the hotel, the gallery is an enormous gate for the whole of Madeira”.
Arts In Business and Arts In Skylounge are operating on the top of a building in Funchal’s City Centre. While the first is working as a supporting infra-structure for companies that can be “used for a few days, weeks or months”, Sky Lounge was made to be used in more specific situations, such as presentations, business meetings or more intimate/personal celebrations.
The Arts In Hostel & Apartments category operates in two different locations. One in Ponte Nova that has been described by the ones in charge as “strategically located in one of the city’s most emblematic and central locations”, and another located in the Pina area, where the guests can distance themselves from the city buzz and relax in a peaceful space.
These projects revolve around the group’s objectives: being right in the middle of constructing an active city, capable of overcoming the 21th century’s cultural challenges. Right now, new products are being developed such as the Rooftop Bar, the Terrace cafe, the Arena Club, the Arts in Dining Club and the Pool Lounge.
At this moment the brand confesses its desire to make Funchal a case of study and highlights the “totally positive” outcome since its official inauguration, by the end of last year.
