Ana Moura is the poster face for the event that celebrates the municipality’s day.
Celebrations for the 516th anniversary of Calheta’s elevation to a Town will be kicked off with a taste of fado music, acknowledged as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
The town of Calheta offers an enticing programme for any who look to enjoy their weekend on June 22nd and 23rd in the best possible way.
On Saturday June 22nd, entertainment starts in the square at 8 p.m. with the regional edition of the Talentos à Solta festival, organised by the Calheta Middle and Secondary School. Entertainment will go on through the night with a fado music concert by Ana Moura set to start at the beach, at 10 p.m. The Bassjackers DJ duo, invited by Café do Teatro, will then take care of the end of the night.
Sunday will see a kayak boat race take off at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, around 600 participants from the municipality’s 8 parishes will take to the streets in a parade at 9:30 p.m. in Avenida D. Manuel I. Two hours later, Madeiran Álvaro Florença will give a concert. Right before celebrations come to an end there will be a 15 minute long fireworks show. And to top things off, DJ Mastik Soul continues the celebrations which will carry on until 6 a.m.
