L Concerts kick off with Nancy Vieira

The L Concerts return with 16 shows, carried out every week until October at Estalagem Ponta does Sol.

The Estalagem da Ponta do Sol will be hosting a set of 16 concerts, during the summer months, gathering several artists off the mainstream circuit. The L Concerts begin on June 27th and take place every week until October, some on Saturdays and others on Friday or Wednesday.

In order to comply with the intimate atmosphere of these alternative concerts, admittance must be requested via a guest list, as numbers cannot exceed the 300 mark and an increased number of people are hoping to get a seat. Those interested must visit the online website at www.pontadosol.com and send in their name and mobile phone number and await confirmation. Partaking in the event implies a minimum consumption of €5 or dinner at the inn. The website also provides all necessary information regarding the dates and times of the above mentioned concerts.

This year’s edition follows the same line as previous ones: a first for many artists in Madeira and according to the organization, the best from several musical areas. The Portuguese music with roots in Portugal, Cape Verde, Angola and Brazil will be associated to a number of concerts carried out this year.

Amongst some of the announced artists, concerts will include those of Cape Verdean singer Nancy Vieira, hailed by many as the successor of Cesária Évora, on June 27th.

On July 9th, the South Korean band Jambinai will be taking centre stage, as part of their first ever European tour around 25 countries. They are one of the most popular bands in Asia and their music blends alternative rock and experimental jazz.

On the 12, the stage belongs to Pedro Ribeiro and Pedro Jóia. The first is a fado singer with a rare vocal versatility in this musical genre whilst Pedro Jóia is an acclaimed guitarist.

During the month of August concerts will include those of Peixe:Avião, a band from Braga praised as the new musical sensation on the national scene. On the 29th, one of the most controversial concerts of the season brings Mão Morta to the stage, a Portuguese band, which has recently launched their new album whilst celebrating their 30th anniversary, with the unmistakable voice of lead singer Adolfo Luxúria Canibal.
