Music from ‘round the world’ in Madeira

Atlantic Roots Festival to take off on June 15th with Spanish singer Maria Toledo.

Once again, the Quinta Magnólia gardens are host to the country’s oldest World Music event, the Atlantic Roots Festival. Spanish artist Maria Toledo, solo in Portugal for her first time, is set to open the event on June 15th.

Singer and pianist, Maria Toledo rose to fame in 2009 when her first album was released. Her voice has ventured the likes of jazz, pop and flamenco and she already has four albums under her belt, the most recent one, ‘Magnética’, released in 2016.

Also playing in the first day of the event are Banda D’Além, a group who sings traditional Madeiran music, and the Criatura band, who reinvent traditional Portuguese music.

The event is organised by the Regional secretariat for the Economy, Tourism and Culture of Madeira and is meant to offer a global experience promoting the inclusion of several cultures.

A ticket for the whole event, meaning all three days, sells for 12 euros and a one day ticket sells for five.
